Danny Shane

danny shaneDanny Shane, Yes that’s me. I’m home laying in bed sick (aww blah blah) but still trying to work. Is it work? probably not, I’m mostly checking out a new tablet I bought. The Asus Transformer (I love this tablet by the way). Anyway, it occurred to me that I spend so much time on SEO, backlinking, and ranking other sites, yet I have never even ranked my own blog for my name. haha. Well I obviously have to change that. It can’t be too difficult, I mean no one is targeting the keyword phrase, “Danny Shane” are they?

There are two Danny Shanes

Yes it’s true, there is another Danny Shane. It’s a cycling apparel company. Below is a screenshot from MS that shows the top 5 sites ranking organically in the SERPS for my keyword “Danny Shane“. He’s currently ranking at the number 1 spot, followed by some non-relevant sites like linkedin and facebook. And I’m nowhere on the list! I have to change that.

SEO Competition for Danny Shane

Take a look at the below screenshot showing the top 5′s SEO efforts. Unfortunately for the cycling apparel company they haven’t really targeted their own company name, Danny Shane. The below chart (for any newbs out there) show us that Danny Shane dot com has had their site for 3 years (DA); They are a Page Rank 2 (PR); They have 90 pages indexed with google (IC); They have 87 backlinks for the shown page (BLP) from 26 referring domains (RDP); They have a total of 141 sitewide backlinks (BLD) from 32 referring domains (RDD); They have zero educational/government backlinks (BLEG); They are not a member of the DMOZ (who cares about DMOZ anymore anyway); and they have not even fulfilled the four Y’s (which is the easiest thing to do – Maybe I’ll send them an email with a tip [because I'm so nice]).

Danny Shane

In Conclusion

Sooooooo, basically what I’m saying is this:
The cycling apparel company, Danny Shane dot com never optimized their site nor targeted their own company name, most likely because there is no need to since how many other Danny Shane’s are there? Well, definitely two. However, imagine if a cycling apparel competitor were to find out how poorly Danny Shane had optimized their site; A competitor could come in and target their phrase, “Danny Shane” and easily outrank them for their own company name, thus stealing potential customers from them.

Then Danny Shane dot com could hire me, DannyShane.net to SEO/optimize their site and outrank their competition. :-) I would give him a nice discount since he has the same name as me. He has the dot com also, so it wouldn’t be too hard.
