Yeah Its almost like google has a monopoly on this. and now they are 'trying' to force us to use adwords. the serps results are crap. My #1 sites are gone also. and when I search for my keywords, the pages that show up are old dead sites and many times not even relevant.
Thanks for your comment, and sorry to hear about your ranking loss also. Certain backlinking methods are invalid now. but others still work. its basically like a re-adjustment.. sux to start over though... lots of work. good luck man.

actually it's worse than you think. You have forgotten about the Ripple Effect.

Not only has my page 1 site disappeared for doing exactly what Google suggested over the years, i.e provided quality content in a niche market (photography courses) but the (photography related) sites that one way linked to my site were also penalised and gone. Thus forcing me to restart Google Adwords again. Even though their own analytics stats show that in the 5 years I ran adwords not one sale resulted from an adword, only organic search.

Last month I had ONE sale, this month two (one from bing, one from organic search).

And when I check google, there are one page sites ranking for my key phrases! Oh and a lot of .au sites now!

It is sad. Like I said, I can understand them wiping out thin aff sites, but they took out everyone, even legit sites with quality content.

I agree 100%. Most of my sites have been hit also. I feel I'm forced to go back to PPC at least until they fix this... "if" they fix this. I'm still ranking in Bing though.. not as high, but at least on the first page.. but not enough people use Bing yet to make any real money.

It is really getting difficult to understand how a quality website can simply disappear, if the intention was to target webspam. I don’t practice black hat SEO. I write quality content – all the content on the site is my own and is original. I get positive feedback from my visitors about the usefulness of the information I provide about healthy family nutrition. This is a totally disheartening and discouraging experience.

What seems to be more and more evident, is that Google’s Panda is rewarding big companies and crowding out smaller ones. Let’s face it, big companies can afford big adword budgets. I guess the dream of the web being a place where small business could compete with the giants is over. The sad thing is that Google doesn’t have to do this. It rose on the backs of us little guys and is rewarding us with a kick in the teeth.

google destroyed SEO so they can prosper from adwords.I haven't made money since the update. I'm not paying them for adwords. even when I search for something, I get old websites with old information.
